Creative Writing Club Launch - April 2021
About the Club:
It’s common to want to find people ‘like you’. Indeed, wanting to meet and interact with like-minded people, those interested in cultivating creative habits, was one of the big reasons why I set up this community. And while creating posts, sending newsletters and making comments are great ways to initiate dialogue, establishing relationships and turning infrequent chat into a sustained conversation, requires a different type of facilitation. Hence my proposal of a mix of online ‘live’ and self-paced activities that bring us together to practice and improve creative writing skills. My plan is to use diverse and inclusive materials as a springboard for deeper conversation and inspiration to write and share stories. What do you think?
About the Club Leader:
So we need like-minded people with common interests to start to build the community, but we also need a guide. (You know I’m going to propose myself, right?!) I am an Online English Tutor, Language Learner & Creative Writing Enthusiast who wants to break down the barriers to creative writing for English Language Teachers so they can share their stories with confidence. (Read why here!) I enjoy designing and running short online learning experiences, and think I have the skills and motivation for the job. This role has a dual purpose for me: to teach and to learn, to experiment and improve, to listen and be heard. In sum, it would be an honour to lead this new club.
Initial Format:
Each month* = Two live sessions, two writing prompts + 1-2-1 consultation
Week 1 = (Zoom) English for Creative Writing
Week 2 = (Email) Writing Prompt + feedback
Week 3 = (Zoom) Reading for Creative Writing
Week 4 = (Email) Writing Prompt + feedback
One-to-one consultation in the final week (flexible times)
The CW Club launches in April and will try different types of synchronous and asynchronous activities over the weeks. The idea is that *as we move through the work together, the activities may be adjusted to better suit Club Members in the future. Sounds good but you are not sure what’s in it for you?
